Homeopathy as a preventative - can you see your body as a garden?

There is wonderful book called Between Heaven and Earth that compares the human body to a garden. As the weather has enabled us all to get out to our gardens and or allotments I thought quite an appropriate analogy. Whether you are up to Chelsea Garden standard or more like me - a true beginner who needs lots of advice from friends and u tube (!) we all know the garden needs to be tended to and nurtured. We must water, dig up weeds (always seems to be my job) and be mindful of certain pests so our gardens can flourish. Everyday you go out and observe- this enables you to detect any changes so adjustments can be made so your garden can continue to thrive. In our busy lives we tend to look at our bodies as machines. Not gardens. If parts break they must be either fixed or replaced. These parts are seen in isolation not as part of a whole. We wait to a part breaks before we look for a ‘mechanic’ to fix the problem. We tend to wait for a diagnosis before we take action. I have said to many of my patients over time that all of the MY’S (my head hurts, my stomach aches, my, my, my..) are what become a diagnosis. But as soon as we get a diagnosis it becomes I have high blood pressure, I have eczema, I have IBS. Where did the my go??? When you add up all the individual symptoms they become a diagnosis!

When we take care of our garden on a daily basis we are taking responsibility and acting in a preventative manner- doesn’t that make so much more sense?

Take time on a regular basis to do your personal housekeeping- emotional health, nutrition, body movement, spirit, and community are just a few elements that need to be watched for our holistic health. Take time to observe and see if any adjustments need to be made before it becomes a diagnosis!

Happy gardening!!
